This very special performance in the Los Angeles area raised over $10,000 to benefit the VSA Vipers 9u Baseball Team for their trip to the USSSA Elite 32 National Championship in Orlando, Florida July 30 thru August 8.

to Honor the National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 1936

2011 marked the 75th Anniversary of Christy Mathewson’s induction with the Innagural Class into the National Baseball Hall of Fame (1936). To commemorate this event, Mathewson’s adopted town (Lewisburg) and his Alma Mater (Bucknell University) pulled out all the stops to not just honor Matty and his many achievements but they also be honored all veterans on the weekend of June 25, 2011.

Eddie Frierson performed MATTY on Thursday, June 23, 2011 in the Lewisburg Area High School Auditorium (Bucknell’s Weis Center was going through renovations) at 7pm. The week was sponsored by the Union County Veterans’4th of July Committee, Inc. Tickets were just $10 and $5 for kids under 12. Great family entertainment at a bargain price!

On Friday, June 24, the Christy Mathewson Memorial Gate on the Bucknell campus was be re-dedicated to honor Mathewson with similar fanfare to when it was originally dedicated in 1927 by Commisioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Big League Baseball, Bucknell and Lewisburg. On Saturday the 25th there was the huge Veterans’ Day Parade to honor Mathewson and ALL veterans. Attendees for the week’s festivities included members of the Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Connie Mack families — and more! WONDERFUL!
